THE ISLE OF WIGHT COMMUNITY FUND APPOINTS NEW CHAIRMAN RICHARD PREST

Every year the Isle of Wight Community Fund helps in financing community groups across the Island. This year the Fund is celebrating a milestone. Since being founded in 2007, it has awarded over £750,000 in grants to 218 local community groups and charities. The Fund has enabled five charities on the Island to take on young apprentices. This has made a positive impact on Island communities, whilst helping young people enter employment.

Recently the Isle of Wight Community Fund welcomed a new Chairman, Richard Prest, a retired Engineer and Company Chairman. His previous involvement in the charity sector includes the formation of a major charity in support of Weston Park, the cancer hospital in the City of Sheffield where he then lived. He has been involved in other voluntary positions such as the President of the Rotherham Sea Cadets, the Cutlers Hall Preservation Trust and here on the island with the Abbeyfield organistion.  Richard is currently Commodore of Sea View Yacht Club.

"I'm pleased to be taking on this new role with the Island's Community Fund" he said, "I hope to be able to raise the profile of the Fund, so that we can help more local charities and community groups on the Island and continue the hugely important work they do for our local communities. "He continued, "I have been living on the Island for the last ten years and know there are such organisations that need funds in order to make a difference. One of the main attractions of the Isle of Wight Community Fund is that all the money raised locally gets distributed locally."

The Community Fund On the Island, the IWCF manages nine funds totalling over £1million for the benefit of local people. One of the funds is the Isle of Wight Hundred Fund which currently has 20 supporters who generously donate £250 per annum to support grant making to the Isle of Wight Community Fund. New donors are always welcome to join this worthy cause.
